At Shoreland, our weekend services are designed to both challenge the mature Christian and engage the spiritual seeker. By combining worship, teaching, "special music", and even drama, our aim is to present timeless Christian truths in a manner that is relevant to people at every stage of the Spiritual Journey.

In programming our Sunday morning services, leaders at Shoreland rely on four basic principles, each of which revolves around Jesus Christ:

  1. Faith – the Person of Jesus
The first thing we ask ourselves is, "Does this topic or element offer a clear presentation of the Gospel or provide a practical, Biblically based life lesson?"

This also affects our music selection. We believe that worship (tastefully and passionately expressed) draws people to Jesus. We want Jesus to be lifted up on Sundays and that requires worship.

  2. Fellowship – the People of Jesus
One of the most important things we can do on Sunday is expose the people of the world to the people of Jesus. In John 13:35, Jesus says, "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another". People are naturally drawn into a loving fellowship, and this requires intentionality.

  3. Focus – the Principles of Jesus
Jesus was very intentional in dealing with people. He had a keen focus that allowed him to individualize his message to fit the particular audience he was addressing. From the "woman at the well" (John 4:4-26) to the "rich young man" (Matthew 19:16-26), he grounded his messages in settings and situations his audience could relate to. He used creativity to keep the audiences attentions. And he frequently (if not always) gave his audience more than they expected.

Jesus' principles never changed, but he varied his focus to suit his audience. At Shoreland, we strive to do the same on Sunday morning.

  4. Fun – the Passion of Jesus
Jesus enjoyed life. Jesus embraced life. Jesus had fun. In an attempt to maintain dignity and decorum, many churches tend to stifle the passion. They don't have the kind of fun Jesus had. Laughter is common during the services at Shoreland – we want people to enjoy themselves there. But never at the expense of our principles.
