"Bear one another's burdens and thus
fulfill the law of Christ, and give to the people in need".
Galatians 6:2
Mission
At Shoreland Community Church, we believe that lost and needy
people matter to God; therefore, they matter to us. The purpose
of the Community Care ministry is to restore holistically a person
or family in crisis. This ministry focuses on four areas of crisis:
emotional, physical, spiritual, and financial.
Vision
1. No member of the Body of Christ should be without food, shelter,
clothing, and adequate financial resources. James 2:15-16 reads:
"If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of
daily food, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, be
warmed and filled', and yet do not give them what is necessary
for their body, what use is that?"
2. God's people are to provide for, and care for, one another
according to Galatians 6:2.
Function
The Community Care committee devotes its main efforts to supporting
members of the Shoreland family who find themselves in crisis
and whose needs cannot be met by their small group. Community
Care has assisted individuals dealing with alcoholism, depression,
homelessness, grief, domestic violence, illness, financial problems,
and unemployment. The programs currently under Community Care
are Meals-N-More, the Giving Tree, and the Dresser Ministry (an
outreach program in conjunction with the Evangelical Child and
Family Agency).
The committee is familiar with community and county resources
(social and governmental agencies), as well as Christian contacts
and counseling resources. A current list of approved agencies
has been established. Referrals are made to these agencies for
those individuals or families needing further assistance with
housing, employment, and/or counseling.
