As a church, we are constantly faced with choosing from among
many good options. In addition, we all have different tastes and
preferences. To keep our decisions in line with our mission and
vision, we have developed a set of core values that guides us
through the decision process.
Value 1: Lost people matter to God; therefore,
they matter to us.
Christ spent a lot of His time and energy showing that everyone
matters to God. He came to help those who were sick, not the healthy
(Mark 2:17). We propose to follow His example by funneling a significant
amount of our ministry and relational energy into those who are
without Christ.
Value 2: Full devotion to Christ is normal
for a believer.
Christ continually challenged His followers to a radical and complete
commitment (Luke 9:57-62). We can do no less.
Value 3: Biblical truth is culturally
relevant.
The Bible is our final source of authority for moral and spiritual
issues. We believe that this truth is eminently practical in our
daily lives. We will make every effort to communicate this truth
in a lively, engaging, and relevant manner.
Value 4: Authenticity is critical to spiritual
and relational growth.
This includes the concepts of personal authenticity, character,
and wholeness (Ephesians 4:25-26, 32; Hebrews 12:1; Philippians
1:6).
Value 5: Excellence and variety honor
God and reflect His character.
When God created the earth, He saw that "it was good"
(Genesis 1). We reflect God's character when we settle for
nothing less than our best.
Value 6: Celebrative praise and worship
are essential for a believer.
God loves worship (2 Chronicles 5:13). Regular times of corporate
worship are necessary for believers to grow individually and as
a body.
Value 7: Every believer is uniquely gifted
by God for His service.
Every believer has been given at least one spiritual gift to be
used in service for "the common good" (1 Corinthians
12:7).
Value 8: Evaluation, adaptation, and change
are critical to the success of the mission.
If we are to be faithful to our mission and good stewards of the
resources God has given us, we must constantly evaluate our ministry
and be willing to adapt as the Holy Spirit leads.
